Mini-Mentorship Calls
If you’re trapped in the help-needing limbo between “bigger than a Twitter @” and “smaller than a 12-week mentorship,” these one-off, one-on-one calls are meant to help bridge the gap. These are for any topic you want to discuss, but common ones include portfolio reviews, career consultations, resume feedback, or interview practice.
The Basics
50-minute call on the subject of your choice (or 50-minute response to your e-mail, if you choose the “This Meeting Could’ve Been An E-mail” route
These calls are available to anyone, with priority being given to members of underrepresented groups.
Requests are reviewed and scheduled weekly, typically for the following week.
If the topic of your call is time-sensitive (for example practicing for an upcoming interview), please e-mail us directly after submitting your form.
Currently all calls are fielded by Hadidjah Chamberlin - their specialties include VFX and Early Career Development.
Common Chat Topics / Structures
These are some of the most common subjects people request during calls (and each of them tends to fill a 50-minute slot pretty well). However, if you just have a mish-mash of questions you want to ask, ask away! We get generally get through 3-5 questions in an hour depending on how meaty they are.
Career Consultation
At a crossroads in your career and want a second opinion on what to do next? Have a few things you love doing and trying to decide what to focus on? Get a sounding board for whatever’s on your mind!
Portfolio Review
If you want an extra set of eyes on your portfolio - from a deep dive into a few pieces to feedback on the presentation - boy do we have thought s and resources we’re happy to share!
Calls can typically cover two of:
In-depth feedback on one portfolio piece
High-level assessment of strengths and weaknesses
High-level feedback on the contents, presentation and formatting of your work / overall website (if applicable)
In-depth feedback on a second piece

Interview Practice
If you want to practice your interviewing skills with someone who’s done uh, a lot of interviewing (from both sides of the table), we’ve got lots of practice helping people find their voice in their answers, unravel how to ask or answer difficult questions, and build confidence.
Calls can typically cover one of:
2-4 interview questions with in-depth feedback and practice
A typical 30-minute interview plus feedback
An in-depth freeform discussion of how to approach a specific interview (or interviews in general), questions you’re unsure how to phrase, etc.

Application Feedback
If you want to get in-depth feedback on your resume, cover letter, or a specific application before you submit it, we’ve got loads of experience reviewing applications and forming opinions about what makes a great one.
Calls can typically cover one of:
High-level resume feedback plus in-depth exercises on improving 1-2 sections
Feedback on one application including high-level resume and portfolio feedback and advice on how to tailor your application
